DDP Shipping From China Explained

DDP means Delivered Duty Paid. In a DDP arrangement, the seller is responsible for getting the goods to the agreed destination and handling the import duties and taxes specified by the agreement.

What to confirm in writing

Do not rely on the three letters alone. Ask for the named delivery location, shipping method, transit estimate, what paperwork is handled, whether duties and taxes are included, and which charges may still arise at destination. A quote should make clear what is included and excluded.

Why DDP can be convenient

For some buyers, DDP reduces the number of separate freight and customs tasks to coordinate. It can be useful when the shipment, destination, and commercial terms are clear. Convenience should not replace checking the provider’s process, documentation, and delivery responsibility.

Match the plan to the destination

Amazon FBA delivery, a third-party warehouse, and a residential address can have different appointment, labelling, unloading, and delivery requirements. Give the freight provider correct carton details and destination instructions before booking.

Compare like with like

Two freight quotes can look very different because they include different services. Compare weight or volume basis, route, insurance, customs handling, duties, destination delivery, and any potential storage or appointment fees.

Ask clear questions early. The best freight option is the one that documents the route, cost, responsibility, and delivery requirements for your actual shipment. Discuss China-side freight coordination →
