Private Label Products From China: What to Ask a Factory
Private label is not just adding a logo. It is a set of production decisions—materials, branding method, packaging, tooling, quality standard, and lead time—that should be agreed before production starts.
Can the factory make this exact version?
Show the supplier the exact product requirement and ask what is already available, what must be changed, and what requires a new mould, tooling, or component. Request a written quote that separates product cost, tooling, sample cost, packaging, and any artwork or plate fees.
What is the true MOQ?
Ask separately about the MOQ for the product, color, logo, packaging, and custom component. A supplier may accept a small product order but require a larger quantity for custom packaging or a special color. Knowing each minimum prevents surprises later.
How will the logo be applied?
Ask whether the logo is printed, engraved, embossed, embroidered, laser marked, or applied another way. Request the artwork format, colour requirements, logo size, placement, and a photograph of a previous comparable result. Approve the branded sample before bulk production.
What packaging and inserts are included?
Confirm each piece: retail box, polybag, insert card, barcode label, warning labels, master carton, and carton marks. Use a packaging dieline or artwork approval when relevant. Packaging issues can delay shipment even when the product itself is correct.
How will quality be checked?
Agree the critical points before production: acceptable defects, measurements, colours, function, logo placement, packaging, and count per carton. The factory’s own check is useful, but an independent inspection gives you a separate view before the balance is paid.
