What Is a Trading Company vs a Factory in China?
A factory makes some or all of a product. A trading company sources and coordinates products from one or more factories. Neither is automatically right or wrong; the best choice depends on the product and support you need.
What a factory can offer
A direct factory relationship can provide closer access to production, technical detail, and potentially better pricing for a stable, well-defined product. It can also require more effort from the buyer when several components, suppliers, or logistics steps need coordination.
What a trading company can offer
A good trading company can coordinate multiple factories, simplify communication, consolidate products, and manage export tasks. The trade-off may be less direct production visibility or an additional margin. Ask exactly what services they provide and which factory produces each item.
How to identify the real production setup
Ask for the legal company name, factory address, product-specific machinery, production flow, current work in progress, and a live video walk-through. Compare the answers with the sample and your product requirements. A supplier that calls itself a manufacturer may still outsource key processes.
Choose based on the job
For a single, repeatable product, a capable direct factory may be a good fit. For a multi-item order or a project requiring consolidation, a competent trading partner may add value. In either case, use samples, written specifications, and inspection.
